HYPNOTHERAPY

'Hypnosis is the bypass of the critical factor of the conscious mind and the establishment of acceptable selective thinking.' (the official US definition of Hypnosis.)

Therapeutic Hypnosis can be used for so many various issues because when we have a problem or a blockage our emotions are involved as well. We cannot change our emotions using logic, the conscious mind or our willpower. In order to do that we need to dive deeper down into the subconscious mind because the way we feel, the way we perceive our lives and react to events has a lot to do with how we have been brought up, the culture we live in and the environment we have grown up in. All of this is firmly anchored in the subconscious mind and therefore we need to access this part of ourselves. The only way to do this is through total relaxation and moving into a trance state.

What is Hypnosis/Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis describes a mental state in which a person has an increased openness to suggestions. Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness that is sometimes called a trance. The person’s attention is so focused while in this state that anything going on around him is temporarily blocked out or ignored. In fact it is a natural state we move into when becoming completely absorbed in a good book, good film or a beautiful piece of music.

  • Therapeutic Hypnosis is team work between  you and me.

  • Therapeutic Hypnosis is a method to change negative programmes in the subconscious mind to positive ones

  • Therapeutic hypnosis is a combination of deep relaxation and a concentrated focus on your current issue

  • Therapeutic hypnosis is a very gentle, yet extremely efficient method to tackle several issues ranging from: Depression, Stress reduction, Burnout, Anxiety (general or specific), Pain relief (once the reason for the pain has been cleared by a medical doctor), Insomnia, Self-Confidence, Fears or phobias, Stopping smoking, General change in your life, Losing weight

What is Therapeutic Hypnosis / Hypnosis not?

  • You cannot be hypnotized against your will

  • You cannot be manipulated in any way against your will

  • You can move out of the hypnotic state at any time you wish

  • You cannot be made to do anything that goes against your ethics

  • You are not asleep and you are not unconscious

  • I do not make any diagnoses, prescribe any medication nor do I promise you healing

How does Hypnotherapy work?

It is my job to guide you into a deep state of relaxation. In this state your subconscious mind is open to new ideas, suggestions and new ways of thinking. There are 2 approaches that one can take:

  1. Suggestion therapy: With this approach the hypnotic state allows you to be able to respond to suggestions. You can be helped to change certain behaviours, such as stopping smoking or nail biting. It can also help you change perceptions and sensations and is particularly useful in treating pain, insomnia, reducing stress, for weight loss, for better self-confidence, self-hypnosis for relaxation.

  2. Analysis: This approach uses the relaxed state to explore a possible psychological root cause of a disorder or symptom, such as a traumatic past event that you have hidden in your unconscious memory. Once the trauma is revealed it can then be addressed and solved. This approach is appropriate for deep-seated fears or anxiety.

How does this all work in practice?

First sitting:

After you make an appointment either by sms or mail (see contact details in contact) you will be sent a health form as well as a form asking you about your current issue. This will be sent back to me before your appointment. Depending on what issues are being addressed the appointment can last between 11/2 – 3 hours.

The first part of the session is devoted to a chat between you and me. During this time I can get to know you better and understand exactly why you are here and you can clear any questions or concerns you might have about hypnosis. This can take from 30 minutes up to an hour.
I will ensure you that you are in control at all times. Hypnosis has nothing to do with losing control – you can end the session whenever you feel like it – it has much more to do with trust and the ability to relax physically and mentally to such a degree that your conscious mind takes a back seat for a while.

After our initial chat I will guide you into a deep state of relaxation (rather like being on a wonderful holiday!) and this part of the session can last up to an hour.

The post-hypnosis discussion is also very important. Here you might wish to share some experiences you had while in the hypnosis or clear up further questions. After this first sitting I send you home with the instruction to allow your subconscious mind to do its work. You don’t need to do anything except observe yourself during the following week. You might notice that your issue has completely disappeared and that you need no further sittings or you might realize that things are much better but you need another sitting to completely dissolve your issue.

Follow-up Sittings:

Hypnotherapy is a highly effective method to help you change your life for the better. Sometimes issues can be resolved after only 1 sitting.  At other times 2 or 3 more sittings might be necessary. Working with the subconscious mind means tackling an issue at its root cause and once this has been eliminated you are free from that issue!
